Internship Opportunities: Green Team Coordinator and Bike Coordinator
Each year, Sled Island’s Green Island team works to minimize the festival’s impact on the environment, achieving a greener Sled Island and a greener Calgary.

Internship dates: April 6 - July 3, 2015
Application deadline: March 23, 2015 at 4:00pm MST
These are unpaid internships, however, students who meet SCIP criteria are eligible for a $1000 bursary.
Green Team Coordinator
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of Sled Island’s Environmental Lead, the Green Team Coordinator will help achieve Sled Island’s environmental goals for 2015 and beyond by overseeing “Green Island” volunteers and waste reduction initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to manage Green Island volunteers before and during the festival
- Assist in creating and overseeing production schedules for waste reduction initiatives
- Assist in developing waste reduction communications strategies
- Brainstorm and implement new waste reduction initiatives
- Engage community partners in achieving Sled Island’s waste reduction goals
- Assist with tracking and reporting on collected materials and overall waste reduction
QUALIFICATIONS
- Some background in business, event planning and/or environmental studies
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience managing and working as part of a team
- Self-motivated and able to work within tight deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Google Docs and Dropbox
Hours will range from 5 - 15 hours per week.

Bike Coordinator
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of Sled Island’s Environmental Lead, the Bike Coordinator will help achieve Sled Island’s environmental goals for 2015 and beyond by overseeing bike-related “Green Island” initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in creating and overseeing production schedules for bike-related initiatives
- Assist in planning and implementing temporary bike parking and bike valet at Sled Island venues, including coordinating permits with property owners and The City of Calgary
- Assist in planning and hosting Green Island Bike Scavenger Hunt
- Assist in developing bike parking and bike valet communications strategies
- Engage community partners in achieving Sled Island’s bike-related goals
QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in business, event planning and/or environmental studies
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and able to work within tight deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
